The beauty industry is constantly evolving—but at Lip Esteem LLC, founder Tameka Jones has carved out a space that’s as bold as it is empowering. She believes everyone deserves to feel confident, and she knows the right product can make all the difference.

Growing up, Jones looked for ways to hide her features. As she got older, makeup became a tool for self-confidence—and eventually, a pathway to entrepreneurship. After training as an esthetician and makeup artist, she launched her own lip line to help others embrace their beauty and uplift their communities.

In 2020, Jones came to Neighborhood Development Center (NDC) to bring her vision to life. Through NDC’s Plan It! class, she began shaping her business. Over the next four years, she continued partnering with NDC for technical assistance through our Accounting and Mindset Reset programs and funding options. “Every program I’ve encountered through NDC has been a stepping stone,” she said. “Their unwavering support has been instrumental in my journey as an entrepreneur.”

Last summer, Jones took her business to the next level with a loan from NDC. With the funds, she powered through a busy season of pop-ups—including a booth at the Minnesota State Fair. Her success was so strong, she repaid the loan by early fall. She also landed a deal with the Minnesota Vikings and provided lipstick for the team’s cheerleaders.

Jones’ impact extends beyond her business. She recently partnered with the Jeremiah Program to offer makeovers to pitch competition finalists, and she’s a guest speaker for a course on e-commerce and entrepreneurship with WomenVenture and the Rondo Community Hub. She also serves on the boards of the Rondo Community Land Trust and Saint Paul College. Lip Esteem continues to be a pillar across Minnesota communities.

Today, Lip Esteem is growing—with products available both at her Selby Avenue storefront and Mississippi Market. Jones continues to show what’s possible with passion, persistence, and the right support.
