Jose and Noemi Payan
2616 27th Avenue South - Minneapolis (view map)

In the mid-1990's, Jose and Noemi Payan moved to Minneapolis with their five children and a sixth on the way. They soon noticed a growing demand for high-quality, fresh tortillas in the Twin Cities. In fact, they - and many of their friends - wanted good tortillas for their own meals. The Payans decided to take an NDC training course—taught in Spanish—that helped them create a viable business plan to launch their company. With a solid plan in place, NDC provided a loan so they could open their first tortilla-making location in Mercado Central on Lake Street in Minneapolis. As their business grew, NDC provided ongoing assistance and advice, plus additional financing to help them open two more locations.

Today, the couple runs a business that operates out of three sites and employs 50 people. NDC played a key role in helping them realize their potential, provide for their family, and have a significant and positive impact in the community.
