Business Resource Centers

Business Resource Centers

Program Description

Neighborhood Development Center (NDC) operates five Business Resource Centers that provide entrepreneurs and small businesses with access to – and support using – computers and the Internet. The Centers also provide workstations and technology support for those receiving NDC Small Business Consulting assistance. The Centers offer three levels of service:

Level 1: Self-Directed Use – Entrepreneurs use Center computers to access the Internet and do business-related work on their own. A printer/copier is available for a fee.

Level 2: Computer Skill Building – Individualized assistance is available, by appointment, on a variety of subjects (occasionally walk-ins can also be accommodated):

  • Basic computer & Internet skills
  • Web-based research (industry analysis, market research, etc.)
  • Preparing business plans with Business Plan Pro software
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.)
  • Low- and no-cost marketing (creation of business cards, flyers, web-based marketing, online directories, website building, etc.)

Level 3: Small Business Consulting – Center facilities are also used as workstations for entrepreneurs receiving advanced assistance from NDC consultants.

Eligible businesses include current students and alumni of the NDC Entrepreneur Training Program, recipients of NDC loans and financing, and other companies in NDC target neighborhoods that have been in business for at least one year.
The Centers are operated by a Director and staffed by qualified college interns from a wide spectrum of study areas including urban development, marketing, business development and graphic design.
